High Reliability Ceramic PTC Thermistor Strong Ability To Suppress Inrush Current
Organizational structure and functional principle of PTC thermistor
Ceramic materials are usually used as excellent insulators with high resistance, while ceramic PTC thermistors are based on barium titanate and doped with other polycrystalline ceramic materials, which have low resistance and semiconducting properties. It is achieved by purposely doping a material with a higher chemical valence as the lattice element of the crystal: in the crystal lattice, part of the barium ions or titanate ions are replaced by ions with higher valence, thus obtaining a certain amount Free electrons that produce conductivity. For the PTC thermistor effect, that is, the reason for the step increase in the resistance value is that the material structure is composed of many small crystallites, and a potential is formed on the interface of the grains, the so-called grain boundary (grain boundary). Barriers, which prevent electrons from crossing into adjacent regions, thus producing high resistance, this effect is counteracted at low temperatures: high permittivity and spontaneous polarization at grain boundaries prevent The formation of a potential barrier allows electrons to flow freely. And this effect at high temperature, the dielectric constant and polarization intensity are greatly reduced, resulting in a substantial increase in potential barrier and resistance, showing a strong PTC effect.
Application
The characteristics of PTC thermistor are:
1. Power saving
The energy input of the thermistor adopts the proportional type, which has the current limiting characteristic of the protection circuit, and saves power compared with the switching energy input of heating elements such as nickel-chromium wires.
2. Long service life
The PTC thermistor itself is an oxide, there is no high-temperature oxidation defect of the nickel-chromium element wire, and there is no fragile situation of the infrared diode, the service life is long, and the service life of the porous type is longer than that of the non-porous type
3. It has the special performance of constant temperature, adjustment and temperature control
When AC or DC voltage is given to the thermistor element to heat up, below the Curie temperature, the resistivity is relatively low; if it is higher than the Curie temperature, the resistivity suddenly increases, so that the thermistor current is reduced to a fixed value, reaching Automatic constant temperature, temperature adjustment purpose
4. Non-combustible, safe and stable
When the PTC thermistor is hot, it does not glow red, has no flame, and is difficult to ignite
When the temperature near the thermistor exceeds the limit value, its power is automatically reduced to a stable value, and no burning accidents will occur
5. Wide operating voltage range
PTC thermistor can be used normally under low voltage 6 to 36V and high voltage 110-240V
